Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

Only qualified individuals who have met national standards for education and training and who are members of the provincial regulatory bodies can call themselves a Registered Dietitian. The title Registered Dietitian "RD" is protected by law through provincial legislation. The term Nutritionist is not protected.

Are Registered Dietitian services covered under OHIP?

Unfortunately, fees are not covered by OHIP. However many private insurance plans cover some or all of the cost of your nutrition counseling sessions. Check with your insurance provider for details.

How is this different from other nutrition programs?

Registered Dietitians offer a non-dieting approach to healthy eating. Dietitians can coach people to make lifestyle changes rather than modulating through fad diets.
